My name is Megan Hale, I have been working at the San Francisco Sequoias, a non-profit retirement community for fours years. I am an occupational therapist and my role in this community is to engage seniors in a holistic range of services and activities that keep them healthy, active and independent for as long as possible.

During the past year I have experienced a clear and present demand for computer services from our residents. Most of our residents do not own computers so Senior Surf’s unique mobile computer service geared specifically towards seniors was particularly appealing to me and our resident population. Equally as important to us, Senior Surf understands the needs and demands of this population. Their computer classes address not only cognitive development and learning but have enabled residents’ access to family, friends and community – which are all key components for healthy aging.

The quality of installation, set-up, organization and education provided by Senior Surf has impressed me since day one. Residents look forward to the weekly classes and have stated that “Senior Surf is the best activity at the Sequoias”, “I have learnt so much with Senior Surf, the instructors are patient and attentive with me” and “I’m not scared of “breaking” the computer anymore”.

The instructors are professional, knowledgeable and tailor the computer classes to suit each groups needs. Furthermore they ensure their classes are non-threatening and a fun learning environment which is so important for seniors, many of whom feel intimidated by their experiences with computer technology in the past.

This service has had a positive influence on our community and we are proud to be associated with Senior Surf.
